The new RohanRhythm tuneable mridangam combines traditional strapping with a convenient nut-and-bolt system of fastening. The design has many advantages over the traditional design:
Easy tuning with a wrench
Pitch range of up to five whole steps (C to A) compared to +/- 1 whole step with the traditional instrument
Easy head replacement
Independent tuning of the drumheads
Weaved rope retains traditional elegance of the through-and-through strapping
No sharp hooks to impede performance
Traditional mridangams can be retrofitted with the new design

It is played resting on the shoulder, the chest or tucked in the armpit. This ancient instrument comes with 3 gut strings, sheesham fingerboard, bow and padded gig bag. It measures 23 inches long by 5 1/2 inches wide by 4 1/2 inches deep (including the bridge). Bow is 27 1/2" long and the rosin for bow (VR200 D'Addario Rosin) is sold separately.
Please note: Rebecs are de-tuned and the bridge is removed prior to shipment to reduce the chance of damage to the instrument. Before you can play instrument, you will have to set the bridge in place and then tune it, you will also have to prepare the bow. The bridge is free floating and will be held in place by the tension of the strings. To find the correct placement of the bridge: Put the three strings into the notches of the bridge and stand the bridge on the face of the soundboard between the two sound holes. Then measure from the bottom of the nut, to the front of the bridge; the measurement should be 13-inches. The bridge should be perpendicular to the strings, so the measurement should be 13-inches under each string. Be careful that the bridge does not move while you are tuning.

DISCLAIMER: Instrument's finish color and decor may vary from photo. Shellac is very impressionable (no pun intended) and during the instrument's long transportation from India, the shellac finish becomes marred by the packing materials and may cause the sides of harmoniums to have impressions. These impressions are cosmetic and do not affect the playability or sound, so we do not consider such impressions as blemishes or defects.
