Banjira Basic Double Reed Harmonium
The 17.5 L x 9.5 H x 11.5 W body is smaller than most standard harmoniums; this makes it lighter. The fixed keyboard has 30 keys, for just over 2 1/2 octaves. Integral bellows can be played left or right handed. It is tuned (within +/- 3 cents) to A=440 Hz. This lightweight Harmonium is less than 13 pounds. It has no drones or air control knobs. It's ideal for the person who wants a basic harmonium.
Finish color and decoration style may vary from photo.
This instrument was introduced to India by the British. It has been embraced and is now a truly Indian instrument used as accompaniment in devotional songs. As with many Indian instruments the key for the music is selected to best suite the vocals, or to set a mood.
DISCLAIMER: Shellac is very impressionable, no pun intended. During the long transportation from India the shellac finish becomes marred by the packing materials. These impressions are superficial and cosmetic. Impressions on the finish do not affect the playability or sound. Therefore we do not consider such impressions as blemishes or defects.
